These two traces are drawn by this page from a simple formula. They are not study data. They stand in for a real question: after a person sits for a long time, does their walking change by an amount too small to see but large enough to matter?

He watches the work happen on the clinic floor and reports what a new system would actually have to fit into.

He applies the standard he was trained on with human subjects: measure it, or do not claim it.

He explains the clinic to the engineers and the system to the clinicians, in the words each one already uses.

Nathan Berio.

Nathan goes into hospitals and clinics to find the problems clinicians have, and carries them back to the people writing the software. He does not design from the outside.

That habit is trained in the lab. As a research assistant in Cal Poly Pomona's motor neuroscience group, he has designed and executed human-subject experiments, instrumented participants with EMG and motion-capture systems, and collected and analyzed neuromuscular and movement data. The work has been published and presented.

The other room is a working clinic. As a physical therapy aide at Empower PT & Wellness in Chino, he guides patients through prescribed exercise and records their progress for the therapy team. He still works that floor.
